Legaltech 2019 is behind us! It was another exciting year of learning and networking, and even having a little fun along the way. For Workstorm, it was the first year as a sponsor of the event, even though our staff members have more than 30 combined years of Legaltech under their belt.
Whether you attended the show, or stayed back this year, here is a rundown of key happenings related to collaboration technology.
Expanded Features: Calendaring and Collaboration
Throughout Legalweek, Workstorm was excited to showcase its latest features, including a new calendar integration functionality allowing users to:
- create, access and view calendars directly from within Workstorm,
- send or receive meeting invitations through email or messaging and
- seamlessly schedule and launch Workstorm’s videoconferencing system.
With this release, Workstorm takes another step toward equipping legal teams with a single platform necessary to increase efficiency, while solving case docketing and tracking challenges.
LegalCIO: An Intimate Conversation for Law Firm IT Leaders
Workstorm sponsored the LegalCIO conference within Legalweek, and Michele C.S. Lange, Workstorm vice president, led a visionary discussion on client collaboration, entitled “The Future of Legal Services: Staying Competitive and Collaborative Amidst Growing Client Pressures.”
The panel session focused on adapting and developing CIO strategies to stay ahead of the curve based on leading trends and technologies in the industry. Panelists included David Cambria, global director of legal operations, Baker McKenzie; Joan Holman, CIO, Clark Hill; Scott Rechtschaffen, CKO, Littler Mendelson P.C.; Kermit Wallace, CIO, Day Pitney LLP; and Andrea Markstrom, CIO, Blank Rome LLP. Sparking interest and engaging many questions from the audience, the session proved to be a productive conversation for both panelists and attendees.
Workstorm’s Vision: Unparalleled Connectedness
Throughout the event, it was apparent that the legal industry is entering an era of invigorating transformation. Workstorm’s vision for unparalleled connectedness through a single collaboration and communication platform emanated throughout every conversation with this year’s Legalweek attendees. Specifically, we heard two consistent themes:
- Enterprise collaboration is not your standard legal software. In the past, the legal industry thought of collaboration software as a new way to redline a document or securely share a file with an associate. Today, enterprise collaboration refers to the top-layer in your tech stack that includes, messaging, video conference, email and calendar, along with integrations into your DMS, matter management and time and billing systems. Never before has the legal industry had access to enterprise collaboration platforms, such as Workstorm, with this level of functionality.
- Cloud architecture is on the rise, but many firms still have on-premise obligations to their clients. At Legalweek, there was a significant buzz about cloud-based apps; however, some firms are still mandated to deploy on-premise solutions. Technology providers, such as Workstorm, that can offer both cloud and on-premise are best positioned to meet a wide-range of requirements for both law firms and their corporate legal clients.
Before we know it, 2020 will be upon us, and Workstorm will be planning for another Legaltech. It is an iconic event that gives us a welcome reminder of the depth and breadth of our amazing legal technology community!
